Coachella was awesome. I saw Keane, Stereophonics, Weezer and Coldplay. I’m not a Keane fan and was dragged to their set by the friends I went with, but it all turned out well since there was a cute woman in front of me at the show who flirted with me the entire time (and expressed sadness that I was leaving to go back to Los Angeles that night). I love Weezer, but Rivers’ extreme shyness and lack of stage presence made me enjoy the performance a little less. (Yes, I know that’s his thing, but I still enjoy a show a little more when it seems like the band is happy to be performing. I mean, at least fake it.) And Coldplay was amazing—Chris Martin is truly a great showman and he knows how to work a crowd. Plus, he was nice instead of getting the crowd galvanized by yelling insults at them… he was very gracious.
Yesterday, my singing group performed for the first time ever. I feel like a weight’s been lifted off our shoulders since we’ve been rehearsing for so long, and now it’s finally paid off. We’re finally going to start taking gigs. I was just really surprised at how many people did not know who The Who were—I opened the show by singing lead on “Pinball Wizard,” and a bunch of people came up to me afterwards and said, “That was great! Who does that pinball song?” One guy even asked me if it was Ben Folds. I felt like taking the entire audience, sitting them down and teaching them a brief history of rock ‘n’ roll.
