If my liver could speak, it would be screaming for respite. The Best Friend™ arrived, and the drinking-off of our faces commenced. And it was an interesting and great weekend, though there are a couple of gaps in my head — which may possibly have been generated by the three Irish car bombs we did in under an hour one night (which topped off the three very strong mojitos we had earlier at Lori and Nicole‘s birthday party at Trader Vic’s, a place notorious for its strong drinks), and there was the night of the “special” cookie, where we both freaked out a little based on the ingredients. Suffice it to say that I was more wrecked this past weekend than I have been in a while, and I wouldn’t have traded it for anything. The BF is a great partner-in-crime. That’s not to say that we weren’t sober at any point this past weekend (illustrated here).
So, those of you with laptops, question: Do you shut the computer down when you leave your place or when you go to sleep for the night, or do you just put the laptop to sleep? How often (and when) do you actually shut down and start up?
I usually just put my computer to sleep. When I was in college, one of my engineering* professors told me that start-up and shut down cause exponentially more wear on a computer’s hardware than anything else and it’s stuck with me.
I try to make sure that I download updates / restart my computer at least once a week, though.
*Yes, I was an engineering student before I ditched it all for the “glitz & glamour” of television production.
I blessed my liver with Prickly Pear Margaritas all last week while on business in San Antonio. Good Stuff!!!
I leave my laptop running a lot. Probably more than I should. Generally it is better to keep your computer running as Amandarin so aptly pointed out, the exception being when it is in a room warmer than 75 degrees.
I always shut down at night and when I’m leaving for a while. Why, should I not be?
I do not shut my laptop down often.. when I travel and occasionally when I go into my actual office to see if there are any pushes I have missed. Is there a rule of thumb? I usually just unplug it, it goes to sleep and than when I relocate, I do not have to wait thru the start up process (yes, I am that impatient).
I shut my computer down when I’m not home--a) for fear of burning down my apartment...I have a Dell and b) to not waste energy. I also shut it down every night before I go to sleep.
